Grow in confidence with your horse.

Do you need help with a new horse or want a yard where you will get support if you are a bit nervous around your furry friend?

Just need somewhere peaceful for your special old friend to be pampered in their twighlight years?

New Barn Stables is a small, relaxed livery yard near Faringdon. It is located in a very peaceful setting with fantastic hacking and great facillities. The yard has been established for over nine years and has been built up with the focus that each horse (and its owner!) should be treated as individuals. By keeping the yard small we get to know all the horses really well and so any potential problems can be picked up early. It also allow us to cater for individual quirks or management requirements so the horses are kept as happy and relaxed as possible. We have a great team of vets, physios, farrier and saddler who visit the yard regually to help keep your horse in top condition.

The yard is somewhere you can enjoy your horse without feeling under pressure to be 'doing more' yet there is plenty of help and encouragement avaliable to help you acheive your goals and build your confidence whether on the ground, out hacking or in lessons or at shows if this is your aim.

One of things I really enjoy is helping with the care of older horses or those that need careful management due to veterinary issues. All the horses have their own stables as part of their livery but with ample well managed grazing many tend to live out as much as possible in well matched small groups where suitable. We have a number of older or retired horses that thrive on this and they enjoy all the pampering and care we provide in their twighlight years.

For the humans, the yard has a really friendly supportive atmosphere. We enjoy occasional meals or days out which are a chance for everyone to get together for a catch up and on a daily basis there is usually someone around to have coffee or tea with whilst discussing your horses latest antics and friends to hack out with.

Part livery prices start from £95 per week which includes the full daily care of your horse but the yard is flexible enough to allow you to be as involved as you like in their day to day care but with the peace of mind that if you aren't around your horse will be cared for and loved as one of our own.

About Sarah McDougall

Sarah

After learning to ride at a local riding school at a young age and helping there for a number of years gaining experience with many different types of horses and people. I took some time out to train as a Forensic Scientist during which time I obtained a First Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences with Chemistry. After 5 years of missing the rain and mud and due to becoming sensitised to the chemicals in the lab I decided to return to horses. I started off by doing odd freelance jobs and happened to get a call from an old instructor of mine who was running her own yard and had a pony that needed exercising. Over the next year I completed my BHS Stage 1 and 2 exams with her help and when the opportunity came up to take over the business I jumped at the chance. Nine years on the yard has grown, I have all my original clients and have taken on some new recruits.

Over the years I have competed successfully in show jumping and dressage at local level and have built up experience dealing with and caring for many different types of horses. This experience varies from backing and bringing on youngsters to managing older horses keeping them fit and supple for as long as possible. I have experience of teaching both children and adults and lessons are tailored to work with the personality of the horse and rider.

I particularly enjoy working with people who lack confidence with their horses whether on the ground or ridden and the yard is geared towards helping people to achieve their goals and most importantly get them enjoying their horses. Over the years I have spent many happy hours walking out on foot to get clients out hacking alone, accompanying them to shows for lots of encouragement and moral support or just being there to help with management and care of their old friend.
